Sports are God given. What is Sport? Sports provide a legal way to vent aggression. Wow-think about this!
Let’s face it–we are all looking for a high in life. Who or what provides your high? Some are excited now because of the legalization of marijuana. Sports provide a high called enthusiasm.
I grew up a football junkie. As a youngster I lived, breathed, and slept football. As a pass receiver once the ball came my way my radar was locked into catching and then running! I played at Bellevue High and Bellevue has won the state 4A High School Football Title the last 11 out of 13 years!
So enjoy the Super Bowl this Sunday afternoon. Know though that the high of sports is only very temporary. To experience the high that is lasting ask Jesus Christ into your life! He provides the high of knowing your purpose; a purpose that is full of exciting new daily adventures loving and serving God and people! Jesus Christ is our true high!
I challenge you to call up on the web: Making of a Champion. This fantastic video shows 5 Seattle Seahawk players who know Jesus Christ. A wonderful series of testimonies! Thank you Jesus for being our spiritual high that is eternal.
Go hawks- Pastor John
Truth is built into the way God created this universe. Truth is not something we create. Truth exists outside of our existence. It doesn’t depend on us. God is truth. Check this out: Pilate said to Him, Then You are a King? Jesus answered, “You say it! [You speak correctly!] For I am a King. [Certainly I am a King!] This is why I was born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the Truth. Everyone who is of the Truth [who is a friend of the Truth, who belongs to the Truth] hears and listens to My voice (John 18:37-38-Amplified version).”
So-what’s it going to be? You looking for purpose, meaning, and truth according to you? Or coming to realize that Truth is built into the very fabric of life? Within the life, death, resurrection, and coming again of Jesus Christ all the truth about life is revealed. Receive Christ. Receive the truth you were created for. It will fulfill you.
Soup and Olive bread will be shared after worship. Bring a soup or bread to share with others!
Stay well! Your Servants for Christ-Pastor John and Maureen!
Who are you? Who am I?
For many in today’s everything’s for sale culture we are known by what? Instead of being known for who you are as a person or your character-we recognize or identify each other by what we have? First impressions are big! Why? Because we are programmed by commercials and culture to value what’s on the outside as opposed to what’s on the inside of people. Isn’t this what Rev. Martin Luther King Jr meant in his “I Have a Dream” speech: “I hope my four little children will grown up to be judged not by the color or their skin but by the content of their character.”
If we aren’t careful we treat things as people and we treat people as things. Our throw away culture even attempts to teach us to throw away people. Like a product, once we use people we’re tempted to throw away relationships.
What am I describing here? Jesus zeroed in on this theme when He cautioned us: “Watch out-be on guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions (Luke 12:15). Doesn’t God want us to have a good life?Of course he does, yet the subtle reality of a “things identity driven culture” is that if we are not careful we don’t own our things, our things own us.
If we aren’t careful even our souls are for sale? Guess what? One of the latest Kia car models is called what? It’s called “The Soul.” Ouch. Is God against cars? Humbug-of course not! Yet do we see what’s happening? People get devalued like things. The question isn’t what’s for sale? The big time key question for 2014 is: “What of you or what about you isn’t for sale? Jesus hits the nail on the head when he wisely says-“What does it profit a person to gain the whole world and loose their own soul?
Be in Worship Sunday for a special treat. Jim and Vivian Moore, music ministers will be sharing a special music message with us during worship. After 45 years of traveling this country putting on music concerts this is their last music concert. Don’t miss it. Be sure and be part of the retirement party we are putting on for them after worship.

Happy New Year! As we look ahead, I’m reminded of a popular Christian prayer book years ago-“Running with Jesus” by Malcomb Boyd. The gist is that God in Jesus wants to be invited to be anywhere we happen to go. So the question is: will you invite Christ-the Lord of the universe to be upon you and within you in 2014?
Exercise isn’t just meant for the body; its also crucial for our souls. Let us exercise spiritually by valuing being in worship, being part of a small group, and most of all having an active prayer life. Speak about exercise-Maureen and I are planning to be in better physical shape this year so to take part in the Spokane Bloomsday Race the first Sunday in May!
The photo you see was taken when Maureen and I were in Seattle Thanksgiving weekend and saw our son Craig run in the Seattle Half Marathon-13.5 miles. Top photo has Craig and Maureen prepping before and this photo was taken just minutes before the 7,500 runners began the race!
Worship this Sunday has to do with how we value God’s truth in music!
Have a super weekend-your servants for Christ-Pastor John and Maureen
